Serendipity: A word That Smiles at Me

There’s a word that has always stayed with me—

Serendipity.

It’s not just a favorite because of what it means—

“good luck in making unexpected and fortunate discoveries”—

but because of how it sounds when you say it out loud.

There’s something about it that feels like a laugh, a breeze, or a moment you didn’t see coming but are glad arrived.

It sounds… happy.

And in a world that often feels heavy, over-planned, and carved in stone,

serendipity feels like permission to let go of the script.

It reminds me that maybe…

just maybe…

God designed this world with mysteries on purpose.

We live by clocks and calendars,

checking boxes and walking in straight lines.

But I wonder if God never wanted us to know everything too soon.

Maybe He wanted some things to surprise us.

The answers we wait for, the prayers we whisper, the paths we don’t yet see—

they’re not just stored in heaven.

I believe some of them are here, right now, woven into the very days we walk.

Hidden in ordinary places. Waiting in unexpected corners.

He gave us mystery not to confuse us,

but to draw us closer.

To make us curious, open, tender—

the way a child is when they discover something for the first time.

I remember how excited I would get when I found that four leaf clover!

So what if today, instead of looking for everything to make sense,

we look for what we never saw coming?

What if the most fortunate discoveries

don’t happen when we go looking for them—

but when we make enough space for them to find us?

Maybe the next chapter isn’t about effort.

Maybe it’s about noticing what’s already unfolding.

Let’s not miss the gifts.

Let’s not rush past the whispers.

Let’s expect that joy can still surprise us.

Because it can.

Because it will.

Serendipity is one of God’s gentlest ways of saying:

“See? I’m still here… and so is Wonder”
